for quick reader

Dear Students,

If you are interested in the "uncanny" and "gothic" you can read Henry James's novel "The Turn of the Screw".
The story is about a governess who is mad, turns mad or is haunted by former ghosts. Many critics have tried to determine the exact nature of the evil hinted by the story and others have argued that the brilliance of the novella results from its ability to create an intimate sense of confusion and suspense within the reader.

If you want to now more about the "unclean" you can read Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter". It is in the 17th-century, Puritan Massachusetts- Bay Colony and tells the story of Hester Prynne. She gives birth to a daughter after an affair and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Throughout the book, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.

These are recommendations! You do not have to read these novels!
