Ok again Canterbury Tales:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KNOW ALL CHARACTERS!
just know how they are in general: the hierarchy etc.

CANTERBURY TALES

I have received a lot of e-mails regarding the Canterbury Tales. So I would like mention the points that you have to focus on. I wrote that you should look at the context rather than the plot.
That means:

1. When and why and how did Chaucer wrote the Canterbury Tales?
2. How does each character (those who tell the stories during the pilgrim)?
influence the other characters, or their stories they tell or the reader?
3. What does Chaucer wants to present with each character (those who tell the stories during the pilgrim)?

for any further questions e-mail me!

Emily Dickinson's Selected Poems

Here you can read some of Emily Dickinson's poems that we have discussed during the last lecture:

(156)
Surgeons must be very careful
When they take the knife!
Underneath their fine incisions
Stirs the Culprit - Life!

(202)
“Faith” is a fine invention
For Gentlemen who see!
But Microscopes are prudent
In an Emergency!

(89)
A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.”
(721)
Behind Me—dips Eternity—
Before Me—Immortality—
Myself—the Term between—
Death but the Drift of Eastern Gray,
Dissolving into Dawn away,
Before the West begin—

(314)
“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

MIDTERM TOPICS

I constructed the Midterm in four main questions. Each question will be evaluated with 25 points.
I did NOT include Beowulf.
Before asking the question I put there a note to give you a hint. So do not freak out when you see a long text.

1. Chaucer-Canterbury Tales
2. Carroll- Alice in Wonderland
3. James- The Turn of the Screw
4. Emily Dickinson - Poetry

Wish you good luck.
