MAKE-UP EXAM 26.01.2018

Those students who are going to take the Make-Up Exam on 26.01.2018 tomorrow, please be aware that you have to know "Figure of Speech" in poetry. I would suggest that you read the last sonnets of William Shakespeare and Edmund Spencer that we have covered during the lecture.
You should also study the main themes, ideas, allusions in Joseph Conrad's "Heard of Darkness".

Please do not panic when you start to work on the exam. Since you are not going to be able to ask me questions, I want you to THINK AND READ before writing the answers.

Amoretti XV

Sent to Ireland to hold English property on the oft-rebellious island, Spenser there met and wooed Elizabeth Boyle, a young woman from an important English family, who was probably half his age. His year-long suit to win her hand in marriage is recorded (with a deal of poetic license) in Spenser's Amoretti.

For Ist Bilgi

This is the only sonnet from Edmund Spenser that we have analyzed at class.
It is called Amoretti XV.

Ye tradefull Merchants that with weary toyle,
Do seeke most pretious things to make your gain:
And both the Indias of their treasures spoile,
What needeth you to seeke so farre in vaine?
For loe my love doth in her selfe containe
All this worlds riches that may farre be found,
If Saphyres, loe hir eies be Saphyres plaine,
If Rubies, loe hir lips be Rubies sound:
If Pearles, hir teeth be pearles both pure and round;
If Yvorie, her forhead yvory weene;
If Gold, her locks are finest gold on ground;
If silver, her faire hands are silver sheene;
But that which fairest is, but few behold,
Her mind adornd with vertues manifold.
